Hollyhock Marsh Mallow (Alcea): Whenever I see hollyhocks, they remind me of 'my youth' and remembering the sight of these plants reaching upward along fences and in small front yard garden beds. According to Bill Cassalman's "Canadian Garden Words", hollyhocks where native to China, where they had grown for more than a thousand years before being introduced into English gardens in 1573 where they immediately became popular.
